ABOUT — ENGLISH
Carolina Villamil is a Colombian visual artist based in the south of France. Born in Bogotá, she studied Fine Arts at Universidad de los Andes and later continued her training in Paris. Her practice moves between painting and photography, exploring water, reflection, color, and the instability of perception.
In painting series such as Between Waters, Waves, and Atmospheres, Villamil works from images she encounters and photographs in the natural world. Reflections, movement, and light disrupt familiar forms, creating images that shift between landscape and abstraction. Through painting, the photographic source is progressively transformed through color, layering, and gesture until the image acquires an autonomy of its own.
Photography is also an independent part of her practice. In RÍO, developed from photographs taken in Colombia, the surface of the water becomes an uncertain space where reflections, organic matter, and traces of life make scale and depth difficult to determine.
Her work has been exhibited internationally in Colombia, Canada, and France, including a solo exhibition in 2026 at the historic Château de Poët-Laval in France. Her works are held in private and corporate collections in Colombia, Canada, the United States, and Europe.
